Hand coloring photographs

It all started way before the days of color photographs, back in the mid to late 19th century. Just because the ability is there now though to print photos in color doesn’t mean we should just ignore a great pastime and move on to something else.

If you want to give your kids a blast from the past that they will enjoy, all you need to do is print up some black-and-white photos from your inkjet printer. Go through some photos you have saved on your computer and turn them into grayscale using any tool you have to manage and edit photos. If you want to have it in color too on your computer make sure you are saving a copy of the original, not saving the changes on the original document. Print them out, and you are one step closer to having the perfect at-home art and craft. Instead of using glossy paper, use something simple like plain paper.

What else will you need to make the project? Well if you have watercolor paints, oil paints, oil pastels or crayons, you can use them. To put the dyes onto the photos, use cotton swabs, paint brushes or your fingers.
